Yesterday, as part of the Monaco Ocean Week, the 20th MedFund Board of Directors was held, chaired by Mrs. Leila Chikhaoui, Minister of the Environment of Tunisia.
The Board was able to review the progress of activities implemented by the 8 MPAs benefiting from the Fund in Tunisia, Albania, Morocco and Turkey.
The directors also analyzed the applications of marine protected areas that responded to the call for interest dedicated to MPAs of strong protection launched at the Mediterranean MPA Forum last December.
The MedFund received 6 applications from MPAs in Croatia, Turkey, Albania and Morocco.
To date, The MedFund protects 3000 km2 of marine and coastal areas in the Mediterranean with the support of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the French Global Environment Facility (FFEM), the French Development Agency (AFD), the Government of Monaco, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the MAVA Foundation.
