In October 2025, The MedFund had the pleasure of taking part in the Greece mission of the Monaco Explorations, conducted in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.
The MedFund visited the Alonissos – Northern Sporades National Marine Park to meet with the Greek manager of this large marine protected area, the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (N.E.C.C.A.).
Regular scientific monitoring, enhanced surveillance, strong involvement of local stakeholders, and user awareness activities — all supported by The MedFund — contribute to strengthening the effective management of these 2,300 km² of protected areas that host the last remaining Mediterranean monk seals.

The MedFund supports these conservation efforts through its dedicated funding window for highly protected areas, with the support of the MAVA Foundation and the PBOL initiative. Since 2022, The MedFund has been financing 40% of the highly protected zones in the Mediterranean through this dedicated mechanism, providing concrete support to the management of the region’s most emblematic MPAs.
