30 X 30: FROM AMBITION TO ACTION
Because a line on a map is not enough, The MedFund supports Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) to safeguard Mediterranean ecosystems over the long term.
As 2030 approaches, the Mediterranean Sea needs fully operational MPAs equipped with skilled teams, solid capacities, and sustainable resources.
We provide local NGOs and national authorities with long-term funding and technical support to achieve effective, adaptative and science-based management anchored in local communities.
We already support the core management costs of
23 MPAs covering 1 million hectares in 9 countries
Founded in 2015 and based in Monaco, The MedFund is a regional non-profit organisation uniting Mediterranean States and conservation organisations. Its innovative economic model combines an endowment fund, sinking funds, revolving funds, and project funding, steered by a responsible investment policy.
The MedFund is:

A tool for the conservation of biodiversity and marine ecosystems that improves the livelihoods of local populations.

An environmental fund that mobilizes public and private financial partners in order to ensure the sustainable financing of Mediterranean MPAs.
